There is no other town in Australia like Alice Springs. It is the hub of so much activity for the vast central deserts of Australia. With a population of nearly 30,000 Alice Springs has faced many issues in recent years, largely stemming from an increase in crime and a strong racial divide that has existed for years. It is the political, commercial, welfare and medical centre for many Indigenous communities throughout the Territory and attracts over 270,000 tourists from around the world each year. It is home to over 1,500 US military personnel serving at the Pine Gap facility.
Alice Springs is a small city with a big influence over a land mass the size of Great Britain. So we are praying the Reality rallies of May 20-22nd will have a significant impact on thousands of people from many remote places. Can you pray with us for Will Graham and his team as they visit Central Australia? We are grateful to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association for recognising the need for effective evangelism in a region of great cultural contrast with different languages and needs. Arrernte, Warlpiri, Luritja, Pitjantjatjara and English are the spoken languages around Alice Springs along with the many itinerant dialects of travellers passing through.
