He had spent his entire life as a blind beggar. A lonely humiliating existence in the bustling streets of Jerusalem. But his life changed forever on that day when the traveling man called Jesus passed by.

God’s heart of compassion in the flesh reached out and turned a broken world of darkness into a life of new vision. With a handful of mud made from saliva and dust, he smeared the blinded eyes and commanded the man to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. In obedience this blind man followed instructions and came back to his home with perfect vision. Can you imagine the joy of his parents and community?

But it was the Sabbath, a day when no Jew is permitted to work. When the religious leaders heard the celebrations in the streets they became angry. A confrontation of abuse followed as this man tried to justify a miracle. With hardened hearts, fear and pride these political and religious leaders eventually banished the man from his own community. On the day that he received sight he is accused of being a cursed sinner by these fanatics of the law.

When Jesus heard of the man’s plight he returned and found him. I love that!! God comes to find us when the world rejects us.

Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. John 9:38

It amazes me that even today in our world the people who are perceived to be the most righteous, law abiding scholars of the day, even arrogant political leaders can be complete fools.
These respected leaders completely missed the miracle and went straight to the law. They would rather oppress the people than rejoice in a miracle. Jesus returns to them and says these words:

“If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.” John 9:41

Let grace, forgiveness and mercy always be your first reaction to every conflict of life. The law will never set you free but grace will bring life, even when we do not deserve it.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2

Thank God we are not condemned!!! We are free because of Jesus. That’s the good news!

Thanks for your ongoing interest and support in the work we are doing in Australia and beyond.
