The Spirit of Restoration.

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. I Peter 22-23.

Sin is like rust in an old car. You can ignore it and it will slowly spread like a cancer, eroding perfectly good steel until it is rendered useless and worthless. Sin destroys our bodies, our relationships our dreams and our destiny. The 1964 EH Holden car in our driveway has lots of rust. For the past few months my son Ryan and I have been working on the car every chance we get, trying to grind out and exterminate every bit of rust and corrosion we can find. We have dismantled the car into hundreds of parts and patiently treated many sections of the vehicle that are never seen. We’ve been applying rust proofing paint inside every panel to prevent further decay. No one will ever see the work we have been doing because it’s all hidden from view.

When we recognise sin in our own lives we must deal with it, otherwise it will become like a cancer and destroy us. The enemy intends to oppress our lives and render us useless and worthless, just like a rusty old car bound for the junkyard. But Jesus comes into our lives with a forgiving, redeeming spirit of restoration. He can deal with the hidden stuff that is slowly killing us. His death and resurrection dealt with the curse of sin forever and we can be fully restored for His good works and purposes when we ask Him for help.

There’s amazing adventures ahead. Don’t ever let the small issues and set backs rust away your dreams. God has called you to run the race and fulfill your mission. He loves to restore people like you and me.

My prayer today is: “Lord help us to love one another as You love us, help us to have pure hearts, keep us from sin that we may run the race set before us. Restore us that we may serve you and the people You love”. Amen.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
